News round up: Provisional calendar released and other news

The provisional calendar for the 2013 season has been released today with the season to start on March 17 in Australia. The 2013 season will have 20 races with the Grand Prix of America at New Jersey the only new addition, should the contract be fulfilled. Valencia will not feature in 2013 as it begins to alternate with Barcelona for the Spanish Grand Prix. The German, Singapore and Korean Grand Prix are all subject to confirmation due to financial issues. The season will finish with back to back races in the US and Brazil on the 17th and 24th of November.

Cyril Abiteboul has been named as Caterham’s CEO. Abiteboul is currently Deputy Managing Director of Renault Sport F1 and will work for both Renault and Caterham until January 2013 before making the move to Caterham permanent. He will be responsible for all of Caterham’s on and off track operations.

Max Chilton was yesterday named as Marussia’s reserve driver for the remainder of the 2012 season. Chilton will take up his duties in Japan after he has fulfilled his commitments in the GP2 season, where he currently lies fifth. He replaces Maria de Villota who lost her right eye whilst testing for Marussia in July. Chilton who has won one race for the Marussia Carlin GP2 team this season has previously tested for Marussia at the young driver test at Silverstone earlier this year.
