News round up: Fernandes to step down as Caterham principal and HRT deny Ma rumours

Caterham is to have a new team principal next season after Tony Fernandes announced that he would be stepping down from the role after the season finale in Brazil.

Fernandes has been Caterham’s team principal since the team entered F1 in the 2010 season under its former guise of Lotus Racing.

The announcement was made in the same week that Fernandes announced a deal between Caterham and Renualt to revive the Alpine sports car brand.

Fernandes did not announce who was to take over from him but did say that the decision had been made over his successor.

HRT have today denied rumours in the Chinese media that they have signed reserve driver Ma Qing Hua to race alongside Pedro de la Rosa in 2013.

Ma has driven in free practice one at three Grand Prix so far this year with outings at the Italian, Singapore and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

HRT have said that whilst they are happy for Ma to continue in the team next year the only confirmed driver for next season is de la Rosa.
