News round-up: Sauber passes crash test and Austrian race unlikely for 2013

Sauber car passes crash test

Sauber have announced that their 2013 car has passed the mandatory crash tests set by the FIA.

The team announced on Twitter that the chassis was fully homologated and ready to begin testing.

Sauber is the first team to make the announcement on the 2013 carsh tests. Winter testing begins in February at the Jerez Circuit.

Austrian race in 2013 unlikely

Bernie Ecclestone has ruled out an Austrian Grand Prix in 2013 days after Red Bull informed the FIA that the Red Bull Ring in Austria would be available for another European Race.

A new grid slot was created after the German Grand Prix was moved forward and an additional date for a European Grand Prix was established.

Ecclestone stated that he had not spoken to Red Bull about a Grand Prix reiterating his desire for Turkey to have the new 2013 slot.

The Turkish government looks unlikely to fund any race in the country but Ecclestone said he expected a decision next week.
