News round-up: Nielsen leaves Caterham and Bangkok could host race in 2015

Nielsen leaves Caterham

Caterham sporting director Steve Nielsen has resigned from his role at the team.

Caterham confirmed that Nielsen would leave the team in January.

He joined Caterham at the end of 2011 having spent some of his career at the Renault team.

No replacement has been announced and there are suggestions that Nielsen could join another team for the 2013 season.

Bangkok to host a race in 2015?

Bernie Ecclestone has suggested that Bangkok could be added to the Formula 1 season from 2015.

The race would be held at night in a similar set up to the current race in Singapore.

The government of Thailand is expected to pick up much of the bill for a race with independent companies including Red Bull to foot the rest of the bill.

There is a current cap on the number of races that can be held in a season, which stands at 20. With New Jersey joining in 2014 and the chance of a race in Russia current venues are likely to find themselves losing out to these new races.
