Fernando Alonso is to miss the first 2013 pre-season test at Jerez next week.
The Spaniard will not drive Ferrari’s 2013 car when it makes its debut on February 5, the car being driven instead by his teammate Felipe Massa and test driver Pedro de la Rosa.
Massa will drive the new Ferrari for the first three days of the test before handing over to De la Rosa for the final day.
De la Rosa joined Ferrari as development driver this month and the test will provide him with experience of the car on the track which will help him when working in the simulator.
Ferrari said Alonso would work on his physical training before getting his first experience of the car at the second test in Barcelona. In Barcelona Alonso will drive for the first three days of the test before handing the car over to Massa.
