Could Portugal host F1’s 20th race?

Portugal has expressed interest in hosting a race in 2013, filling the gap left by the postponed New Jersey Grand Prix.

Bernie Ecclestone had said that both Portugal and France have expressed an interest in hosting the season’s 20th race after a provisional date was given for a Europe based race.

In December the FIA set a provisional date for a European race but with just two months before the season begins no race location has been confirmed.

Turkey originally attempted to secure the 20th race slot but talks fell through and Ecclestone suggested that there could be just 19 races in 2013.

If Portugal got the go ahead the race would be held at the Autodrommo Internacional do Algarve. F1 has previously tested at the circuit after the 2008 season and before the 2009 season.
