Lotus’ 2013 challenger, the E21, was unveiled at an event held at the team’s Enstone base.
The 2013 car still features a stepped nose despite teams being allowed to use a vanity panel. Lotus technical director James Allison suggested that adding the vanity panel just adds extra unnecessary weight to the car.
The new car, which was launched via a live steam on the team’s YouTube channel, also features new sidepods that are similar to those on Red Bull’s 2012 championship winning car.
Allison also confirmed that the team would be running its double DRS system in 2013 after trialling it in the second half of the 2012 season. The system stalls the rear wing of the car when it reaches a certain speed.
The cars new livery features last years gold and black with some new added red perhaps hinting at a new sponsorship deal.
The team has revealed that it aims to finish in the top three of the 2013 constructors championship.
