Razia joins Marussia replacing Timo Glock who left the team due to tough financial conditions.
Razia has links to the Marussia team having been their test driver in former guise Virgin Racing and later taking part in the Young Drivers test in 2010. Razia then joined the Lotus team (now Caterham) as test and reserve driver in 2011 taking part in some Free Practice sessions.
The 23-year-old began his single seater career in the South American Formula 3 in 2005 finishing the series in 6th and continued for another season in 2006 where he won the championship.
In 2007 Razia moved to the Euroseries 3000 where he finished the season in third. The Brazilian racer then spent another year in the series finishing the championship in fourth.
Razia joined GP2 and GP2 Asia racing in 2008 and would remain in the series until 2012 where he achieved his best result of second in the championship. Razia won four races and achieved nine podiums.
The team announced on Wednesday that Razia would be joining the team for the 2013 season. The Marussia team will now field two rookie drivers for the 2013 season which may prove to be a big gamble.
Teammate battle: Razia will partner Max Chilton but with both drivers having never raced in Formula 1 before it is to early to say who will get the better of the other.
