Jerez testing: Raikkonen and Lotus lead the way on day four

Kimi Raikkonen set the fastest time on the final day of the first pre-season test at Jerez.

The Finn set the time on a soft set of tyres in the afternoon session, which was extended by half an hour due to track repairs having to be carried out.

Force India chose to run Jules Bianchi on Friday morning and he set the second fastest time of the day.

Bianchi, like Raikkonen, set his fastest time on the softer tyre and he will be hoping that his performance today will be enough to convince Force India to put him in a permanent race seat for 2013.

With two hours of the session remaining Bianchi handed the car back over to Paul di Resta who completed 49 laps but only set the 12th fastest time.

Sebastian Vettel set the third fastest time of the day as he focused on long runs and tyre evaluation whilst Esteban Gutierrez set the fourth fastest time in the Sauber despite spending much of the day focusing on long runs.

Short runs at the end of the day allowed Jean-Eric Vergne to leap-frog Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes for the fifth fastest time. Hamilton’s second day in the car was much more productive than the first with him managing to complete 149 laps.

Sergio Perez set the seventh fastest time in the McLaren ahead of Valtteri Bottas who set the eighth fastest time in the Williams.

Pedro de la Rosa’s first day in the Ferrari saw him complete 50 laps after a gearbox problem limited his running in the morning.

Charles Pic set the 10th fastest time in the Caterham after 109 laps whilst Luiz Razia set the 11th fastest time in the Marussia.

The fastest time of the week was set by Massa on Thursday with no other driver breaking into the 1m17s.

It should be remembered that the times set in testing are unlikely to be a true gauge of each cars performance.

The next pre-season test is in Barcelona and begins on February, 19.
