2013 Team Preview: Williams

Drivers: Pastor Maldonado, Valterri Bottas

2012 Constructors position: 8th
2012 Driver position: Maldonado 15th, Bottas (Rookie)

The 2012 season was a mixed bag for Williams and despite a win for the team at the Spanish Grand Prix they failed to beat fellow midfield teams Force India and Sauber. Drivers Maldonado and Bruno Senna scored on 15 occasions between them with Maldonado taking Williams’ first win since 2004. Despite his win Maldonado only scored points at four other races in 2012 and even though Senna was the more consistent points scoring by the end of 2012 he was replaced by Bottas who had proved impressive in his Free Practice outings. Williams have showed potential over the last three seasons but have been unable to maintain the promise throughout the season, they will want to improve results in 2013.

Williams 2013 car will make its debut at the second test

Maldonado will find himself with his third teammate in three seasons when Bottas joins the team for 2013. Maldonado will want to produce more consistent results and should aim to finish in the points more often. He will want to assert himself over Bottas but the talented Finn looks likely to produce some impressive results. Bottas could outrace and outscore Maldonado and has previously faired well against him in free practice. The team could challenge for a higher constructors position with Bottas on board but it might not be enough to beat their midfield rivals.

The 2013 Williams looks to be competitive once again this season, however they will need to produce consistent results from both drivers to achieve a better championship position. Pre-season testing suggests the car will be challenging in the tight midfield.

Predicted 2013 Constructors position: 7th
