Drivers: Paul di Resta, Adrian Sutil
2012 Constructors position: 7th
2012 Driver position: Di Resta 14th, Sutil (N/A)
Force India go into every season with the aim of achieving 5th in the constructors championship and despite promise in the closing stages of the 2012 championship the team were a long way off in 2012. Both Nico Hulkenberg and Paul di Resta performed consistently throughout the season scoring on 20 occasions between them. Both had best finishes of fourth and Hulkenberg led the Brazilian Grand Prix before finishing fifth. Hulkenberg left the team at the end of the 2012 season despite the promise the team showed and this may have been well timed. Force India did not announce their 2013 drivers until the final pre-season test amid rumours of cash flow issues for Vijay Mallya and Sahara shareholder and the need to source a pay driver.
After weeks of deliberation Adrian Sutil will return to the team for 2013 to race alongside Paul di Resta as the team looks to return to the top of the midfield. The partnership is a strong one and both are known to be consistent points scorers so if the car is good then they could be on course for a good season. Sutil’s year out may be an issue to begin with as will his lack of testing for the team, however he proved in 2011 that he could be a top ten contender. If Di Resta is outperformed by Sutil this year it could be pivotal in his future. He will want to dominate his teammate otherwise he may struggle to retain a seat in F1 in 2014.
The Force India has looked fairly consistent during pre-season testing but the late decision over the second driver may hamper the team in then early stages of the season. Both drivers have said they are aiming for podiums and the new car could be able to achieve this.
Predicted 2013 Constructors position: 8th
